Hilton Head Island / Bluffton, SC - A storage building at Tanger Outlet 1 in greater Bluffton caught fire Monday evening. No one was hurt.
According to Kirk O'Leary, public information coordinator for the Bluffton Township Fire District, the fire started around 6:40pm in a building behind the Naturalizer store, which was used for storage. O'Leary said a man entered the Naturalizer store to tell the shopkeeper that the building behind her was on fire. She then called the fire department.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. A witness said flames were showing from the top of the building. Nearby stores were evacuated.
Around the same time as the Tanger Outlet blaze, two fires were reported on Hilton Head Island. At about 7pm, an unoccupied mobile home was ablaze when firefighters arrived.
There was no power hooked up to the mobile home. It was significantly damaged, with about 80% of it engulfed when firefighters arrived.
The other fire was out before firefighters arrived at 6pm at Central Church of God. Construction crews were using a torch to seam felt paper to the roof deck when it ignited. The workers used a fire extinguisher to put out the flames before firefighters arrived. They inspected the area to ensure the fire was out. |
