Quick-thinking truck driver prevents petrol tanker fire
01/05/2009
Melbourne Austrailia - The truck's engine caught fire at Southbank just after 9:30pm (AEDT).

The tanker was carrying 63,000 litres of fuel.

Greg Plier from the MFB says a disaster was avoided because the driver had and an extinguisher in the cabin and knew how to use it.

"When he noticed the fire, he got out, opened up his engine bay and with the use of the extinguishers installed in the cabin he basically put the fire out," he said.

"There wasn't much for us to do apart from make sure it was safe."

"[He] basically saved 63,000 litres plus a truck full of fuel. He's done a fantastic job," he said.
